Walt Disney eerste studio die in 1 jaar $7 miljard verdient

Vandaag is Walt Disney Studios  de eerste die aan de wereldwijde box office meer dan 7 miljard dollar heeft verdiend. Dit heeft de studio onder andere te danken aan het fantastische openingsweekend van Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, dat goed was voor 290 miljoen dollar.

Het bedrijf verdiende in de Verenigde Staten alleen al 2,7 miljard dollar, wat een record is voor de filmindustrie. Tegelijk haalde het 4,287 miljard dollar op buiten de VS, wat een record voor het bedrijf is. De records komen voort uit onder meer prestaties van Disney, Walt Disney Animation Studios, Pixar Animation Studios, Marvel Studios en Lucasfilm.  Chairman van The Walt Disney Studios Alan Horn zei in een statement:

“This historic achievement is possible because all of our film studios are bringing their absolute best to the table, telling great stories of all kinds that resonate with audiences across borders, gender, and generations. These films work because each one has not only something for everyone, but everything for someone. It’s our honor to be able to create these experiences for audiences, and we’re thankful to them for continuing to come out to the theater with us.”
