Mark Millar bevestigd X-Men/Fantastic Four cross-over

Afgelopen september kondigde Twentieth Century Fox aan dat ze comic book schrijver Mark Millar hadden ingehuurd als consultant voor de toekomstplannen van hun Marvel film franchise en om beter gebruik te kunnen maken van hun licenties van de personages in hun bezit.

Millar begon direct jaren vooruit te plannen en zijn eerste doel was om de beste talenten aan te trekken, iets wat Fox zelf al had gedaan met het inhuren van Darren Aronofsky (later vervangen door James Mangold) voor The Wolverine, de terugkeer van Bryan Singer (vervanging van Matthew Vaughn) voor de terugkeer van X-Men en Josh Trank hebben ze op het Fantastic Four project gezet.

In een recent interview antwoordde Millar op de vraag of X-Men en Fantastic Four hetzelfde universum delen:

“Without question I think you have to see some of these guys showing up in each other’s movies. I think the most exciting thing in superhero movies, until The Avengers came along, was when Nick Fury showed up in Iron Man. Even though it was a guy with an eye patch it was really cool – and I expect we will see more of that.”

Bryan Singer’s X-Men: Days of Future Past is het eerstvolgende project voor Fox en Marvel (mei 2014) en vervolgens is het de beurt aan de Fantastic Four reboot. We weten inmiddels dat Jeff Wadlow (Kick-Ass 2) aan het script werkt van X-Force, maar Fox moet de productie nog officieel goedkeuren. Bijna een jaar geleden, zei Millar dat hij een drie/vier jaren plan had en dat hij (en Fox) geïnteresseerd waren in een samenhangende universum:

“Following that Marvel model, we want to establish things first. If you had a Fantastic Four relaunch, and Wolverine and the X-Men were in it, I think it would distract you from the Fantastic Four. You can make people aware that they’re existing in the same universe without making it a big crossover movie but it would be an injustice to the Fantastic Four not to make their first movie all about them.”

Fantastic Four begint volgende maand met opnames en X-Men: Days of Future Past is net klaar met de productie.

[Update: Millar ontkende net op Twitter dat er geen plannen zijn voor een crossover.]

But as Millar zegt, “I think you have to see some of these guys showing up in each other’s movies.” Dus als ze het zelfde universum delen, klinkt het toch als een crossover – het is enkel een kwestie van tijd…
