James Cameron geeft Terminator 2: Judgment Day een 3D-rerelease

Eerder kwam Avatar-regisseur James Cameron met een 3D re-release van Titanic. Volgend jaar wil hij dit weer doen met een van zijn films. Dit keer met de sci-fi klassieker Terminator 2: Judgment Day. Dit ter gelegenheid van de 25e verjaardag van de film.

Volgens The Hollywood Reporter overziet Cameron de digitale remastering van de film uit 1991 naar een 3D-versie, via de speciale StereoD-techniek. Hij doet dit samen met DMG Entertainment en Studiocanal. De film moet wereldwijd in de bioscoop verschijnen, maar is vooral gericht op Chinese filmliefhebbers. Naast dat dit een enorme groeimarkt is, wist Terminator Genisys er een omzet te behalen van $112,8 miljoen. Cameron zei zelf waarom hij Terminator 2: Judgment Day een 3D-rerelease geeft:

“Next year marks the 25th anniversary of Terminator 2 and that seemed like the perfect time to bring it back but this time in an all-new 3D version. If you’ve never seen it, this’ll be the version you want to see and remember.”

DMG CEO Dan Mintz voegde toe:

“For a whole new generation of fans, it is truly a chance to see the movie that really set the bar for action and effects that all the movies today are trying to top, in a completely new way — in the theater and in 3D. We are committed to making the conversion the highest quality in order to live up to the expectations of the film’s many fans around the world.”

Het origineel ging in 1991 in première en haalde $519,8 miljoen op aan de wereldwijde bioscoopkassa.
