James Bond acteurs herdenken Sir Roger Moore

Gister nam de wereld afscheid van een legende, daar Sir Roger Moore, de acteur die de rol van 007 speelde in zeven James Bond films, overleed na een gevecht met kanker. Moore werd 89 jaar. Hij speelde de spion het vaakst van alle acteurs en zette de rol op zijn eigen manier neer. Zijn mede Bond-acteurs hebben nu van zich laten horen en eren Moore op hun eigen manier.

Roger Moore nam de rol in de James Bond franchise over van Sean Connery na Diamonds are Forever. Hoewel Connery gemengde gevoelens had tegenover de producenten van de franchise, was hij altijd op goede voet met Moore. Hij gaf onderstaande statement aan Entertainment Weekly:

“I was very sad to hear of Roger’s passing. We had an unusually long relationship, by Hollywood standards, that was filled with jokes and laughter. I will miss him.”

Moore’s eerste Bond-film was Live and Let Die uit 1973 en de laatste keer dat hij de rol vertolkte was in 1985 met A View to a Kill. Timothy Dalton nam vervolgens voor slechts twee films de rol over, waarna het de beurt was aan Pierce Brosnan. Laatstgenoemde plaatste onderstaande bericht op Facebook naar aanleiding van het overlijden van Moore:

“Dear Sir Roger Moore, It is indeed with a heavy heart that I hear the news of your passing this morning. You were a big part of my life, from The Saint to James Bond…you were a magnificent James Bond and one that lead the way for me, the world will miss you and your unique sense of humor for years to come. My sincerest condolences to your family and children. RIP.”

Huidig James Bond-acteur Daniel Craig liet ook nog van zich horen. Via het officiële James Bond Twitter account plaatste Craig simpelweg, “Nobody does it better.” Dit is een referentie aan de song van Carly Simon voor de film The Spy Who Loved Me.

Andere leden van de Bond familie, zoals producenten Michael G. Wilson en Barbara Broccoli, eerden Moore via het officiële 007 Instagram account:

“We are heartbroken at the news of Sir Roger Moore’s passing. On the screen, he reinvented the role of James Bond with tremendous skill, charisma, and humor,” they wrote in part. “In real life, he was a genuine hero working as a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador for many years dedicating his life to alleviating the suffering of children all over the world. He was a loyal and beloved friend and his legacy shall live on through his films and the millions of lives he touched. We shall miss him enormously.”
