Independence Day sequel krijgt titel: Independence Day Resurgence

Tijdens een livestream Q&A heeft regisseur Roland Emmerich de titel bekendgemaakt van het vervolg op Independence Day (1996). De titel van de langverwachte sci-fi sequel is Independence Day Resurgence. 

Tevens verscheen er foto’s van een belangrijk voertuig uit Resurgence. Deze wordt ingezet door de eenheid Earth Space Defense (ESD) en draagt de titel Moon Tug. De officiële synopsis van de film luidt als volgt:

We always knew they were coming back. After Independence Day redefined the event movie genre, the next epic chapter delivers global spectacle on an unimaginable scale. Using recovered alien technology, the nations of Earth have collaborated on an immense defense program to protect the planet. But nothing can prepare us for the aliens’ advanced and unprecedented force. Only the ingenuity of a few brave men and women can bring our world back from the brink of extinction.

Het scenario is geschreven door Dean Devlin, Roland Emmerich, James A. Woods, Nicholas Wright en James Vanderbilt.

De hoofdrollen zijn voor Liam Hemsworth, Jessie Usher, Jeff Goldblum, Bill Pullman, Maika Monroe, Joey King, Sela Ward, William Fichtner, Travis Tope, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Vivica A. Fox, Judd Hirsch, Brent Spiner.

Independence Day: Resurgence verschijnt op 23 juni 2016 in de bioscoop in 2D, 3D en IMAX 3D.
