George Miller over toekomst Mad Max

Met Mad Max: Fury Road maakte regisseur George Miller één van de succesvolste films van 2015. Zijn film heeft hoofdrollen voor Tom Hardy (Max) en Charlize Theron(Furiosa) en werd door vele filmrecensenten en bezoekers verkozen tot de beste film. In een interview ging Miller in op de toekomst van de franchise. Zo heeft hij al een verhaal voor het vervolg klaar:

“Yes, I have. And certainly having conversations about it. But I’m not sure if it’s the very next movie I want to do. I’ve got something a bit smaller before we go back out into the wasteland — something that’s contemporary that we can get through fairly quickly. And something with not too much technical difficulty. Something more performance-based and so on, just to clear the exhaust.”

Het zal dus nog even duren voordat er nog een Mad Max-film komt. Wat Furiosa betreft vertelde hij het volgende:

“She’s a pretty compelling character so it would be great to tell her story. And the director hints that there is much more story to tell. Could that mean further Furiosa adventures in the desert, or a trip back in time to the Green Place before it became a marshy crow-infested hellhole? “Her backstory is really interesting. We only allude to it in this movie because this movie is on the run; people don’t have much time for recreational talk. But you pick up, you have a sense of her having gone through stuff. That’s what the film is trying to do. You’re trying to put a lot of iceberg under the tip, I like saying.”

Miller vindt het ook leuk dat kijkers elke keer weer nieuwe onderdelen van de wereld ontdekken:

“One of the things that’s really gratifying, people are reading the film more than just the surface — the events of the movie, and just picking up a lot of stuff underneath it, which is very deliberate. You work hard to get that in there so it’s not just empty action — that you’re getting some stuff out of it. You’re learning about characters and their relationships and the world and so on. So in many ways, the audience is picking up a lot about Furiosa — or enough to intrigue. And she’s got an interesting story.”

Mad Max: Fury Road wordt geregisseerd door George Miller en is een remake van Mad Max uit 1979. Mad Max: Fury Road speelt zich af in een grimmig woestijnlandschap waar de mensheid is gebroken en waar bijna iedereen gek is en vecht voor de noodzakelijkheden van het leven. In deze wereld van vuur en bloed zijn twee rebellen op de vlucht die misschien wel de orde zouden kunnen herstellen. Max (Tom Hardy), een man van actie en weinig woorden, tracht gemoedsrust te vinden na het verlies van zijn vrouw en kind in de nasleep van de chaos. Furiosa (Charlize Theron), een vrouw van actie die haar pad naar overleving kan bereiken als ze door de woestijn geraakt terug naar het vaderland uit haar kindertijd.

Hoofdrollen worden gespeeld door Tom Hardy, Charlize Theron, Max Rockatansky, Zoë Kravitz, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley en Nicholas Hoult. Het scenario is geschreven door Miller, Nick Lathouris en Brendan McCarthy. De film draait vanaf  14 mei 2015 in de Nederlandse bioscoop.
