Avatar 2 regisseur James Cameron bevestigt release datum

Het is inmiddels lang geleden sinds James Cameron‘s Avatar te zien was in de bioscopen in 2009. Zes jaar. Dit is een nogal ongebruikelijke periode voor een publiek om te wachten op een sequel. De productie van Avatar 2 zou eigenlijk afgelopen jaar van start gaan, voordat Cameron een vierde film aankondigde in de franchise. De releasedatum van Avatar 2 werd vervolgens verschoven naar december 2016. Cameron bevestigt nu echter dat de releasedatum van de film is geprikt rond kerst 2017. De drie Avatar-vervolgfilms zullen achter elkaar worden opgenomen.

“Christmas of ’17 is the target. At least, that’s what we’ve announced. But I don’t consider that to be as important as the fact that when we get all three films done, we drop them a year apart. I call it a meta-narrative that runs across the three movies. Each film stands alone, but it also tells one much larger story. We have design more or less finished, which is an enormous task. It’s been about a two-year task. (We’ve finished) all the creatures and the landscapes, and the new worlds within the world of Pandora that you see. The writing is ongoing, but almost finished. Technical development is done. Stages are done. Infrastructure. So we’re really poised to start after the first of the year.”

Dit is wat Cameron eerder te zeggen had over de productie:

De eerste Avatar verscheen in 2009 en is nog steeds de bestverdienende film ooit. Wereldwijd haalde de film ruim $2,78 miljard (ruim €2,04 miljard) op. Hoofdrollen in de sequels worden gespeeld door Zoe Saldana, Sam Worthington, Sigourney Weaver en Stephen Lang.
